Meet Brandi
Brandi is the founder and CEO of Resume-Advantage, an employment service for both civilians and transitioning military veterans.
In 2009, after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Ewing Sarcoma,Brandi fought to overcome her diagnosis, heal from her treatments, and reclaim her life through therapy, being active, and other healthy living practices.
Nurses, particularly Sarah, played an important role in Brandi's healing journey. Here's Brandi's touching story of how Sarah profoundly impacted her during her battle with cancer and beyond.
Amidst the bustling chaos of the hospital corridors, where the scent of antiseptic hangs heavy and the rhythm of footsteps echoes against sterile walls, there exists a quiet corner where moments of profound connection unfold. It was in this corner that I first met Sarah, a nurse whose compassion would change my life forever.
I remember the day vividly—a blur of fluorescent lights and beeping machines, the sterile smell of disinfectant overwhelming my senses. As I sat alone in my hospital room, fear and uncertainty gnawing at my insides, Sarah walked in. She was young, younger than I had expected, and for a moment, doubt crept into my mind. Would she have enough experience to handle my case? Could she truly understand what I was going through?
But as soon as Sarah began to speak, all my doubts vanished. There was a warmth in her voice and a kindness in her eyes that immediately put me at ease. It was clear that she may have been young, but she possessed a wisdom and empathy far beyond her years.
From that moment on, Sarah became more than just a nurse - she became a lifeline, a beacon of hope in the midst of my darkest days. Through the ups and downs of my cancer journey, she was there by my side, offering comfort, encouragement, and unwavering support. Her ability to relate to me on a personal level, to understand my fears and concerns, was a blessing that I truly needed.
As my health improved and my treatment came to an end, Sarah and I lost touch, our lives taking us in different directions. But fate, it seems, had other plans. Years later, we found ourselves reconnecting, our friendship picking up right where it left off.
Now, as I watch Sarah embark on her own journey into motherhood, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude. Her love and compassion shine through in every moment she spends with her child, a testament to the incredible person she is. And as I help care for her little one, I am reminded once again of the profound impact that Sarah has had on my life, and how grateful I am to have her by my side.
A Heartfelt Thank You
In Sarah, I have found not only a nurse, but a friend, a mentor, and a kindred spirit. Our bond may have been forged in the crucible of cancer, but it has grown stronger with each passing day, a testament to the enduring power of compassion, connection, and the human spirit.
So here's to you, Sarah - my nurse, my friend, and now, my fellow parent and caregiver. Thank you for your unwavering support, your infectious laughter, and your incredible heart. You have touched my life in ways you may never know, and I am endlessly grateful to have you in my corner once again.
#withLoveandCare,
Brandi Benson
