What Keeps Me Going on the Hardest Days
On the toughest days, the unwavering support of my husband and the friends I’ve met through my journey keep me going. They remind me that I am not alone. Setting personal goals gives me something to look forward to, providing motivation to keep moving forward. On the days when survival feels like the only option, I give myself grace, knowing that I can always pick myself up and continue working toward my aspirations when I am ready.
A New Perspective on Chronic Illness
Living with chronic illness has completely shifted my perspective. I’ve come to understand that chronic illness looks different for everyone, and many people face battles we may never see. I’ve also learned that having my future change is not a failure—it’s an opportunity to adapt. Despite setbacks, I can still have goals, achieve milestones, and live a fulfilling life, even if I need to take breaks along the way.
Celebrating Small Wins
For me, celebrating small victories means surrounding myself with those who uplift me and allowing myself to rest. Looking back on how far I’ve come gives me a sense of pride and perspective. There were moments I never thought I would get through, but now I see the progress I’ve made. Giving myself grace in these moments helps me appreciate my achievements, no matter how small they may seem.
Finding Happiness in the Journey
If I could tell my past self one thing about finding happiness in chronic illness, it would be this: life doesn’t end with a diagnosis. In fact, I have built lifelong friendships that bring me joy and meaning. Chronic illness has given me a new appreciation for life and the things I once took for granted. Instead of focusing on what I’ve lost, I choose to work with what I have and find purpose in my journey. Helping others, whether by offering support or simply listening, brings me immense happiness and fulfillment.
Chronic illness may change the path we envisioned, but it doesn’t take away our ability to find joy, strength, and purpose in the journey.
